Stance by Tatter-Hood Stance by Tatter-Hood
Tatterhood in the woods - based on a character created by me, inspired by a "Norse" fairy tale. Costume and makeup done by me, "accessories" were commissioned from various artisans. More pics here!

Made by me: two linen undergowns, wool apron dress, wool hood, leather pouch with antler toggle, belt, leather shoes and latex nose (and zits, scars and bruise makeup).

Bought: Costrel by Robert Harbin, knife from Wareham Forge, belt buckle and strap end from Fettered Cock Pewters, leg wraps from Wood-n-Woven, rings from Blackwood Jewellery and Pacific Celt (based on a lost ring I had got from the Ribe Viking Center in Denmark).

And the spoon is by Colin Johnson.

Ha ha thanks, I think ;) ( I'm buried under tons of makeup, so I guess I still need to "up my ugly" to be closer to the character!)

Ah yes, our friend the internet XD I was ridiculously excited to find someone else who knows about Tatterhood.
Well, my Nanowrimo's actually turning out pretty terrible, cos my life is like :work: right now and I haven't got a lot of time to think about continuity or characterization, but I'm planning on actually editing this year. This story's worth it. x3

What Norse fairy tale is it inspired by? I love Norse mythology. I really love the image it inspired from you too!

It's from the story Tatterhood. Two guys named Peter Christen Asbjørnsen and Jørgen Moe collected Norwegian folktales, which they considered "remains from Norse mythology." I have the old (english) translated copy by Sir George Webbe Dasent and it has a good writeup at the beginning about the comparison between norse mythology and fairy tale elements.

The more you know: The most recognizable story from the collection to western society would be the Three Billy Goat's Gruff!

Ooh! Wow, thanks so much for the info. That's really interesting. I love researching mythology. I'm gonna look up a copy of the collected tales you mentioned sometime (when I'm not drowning in essays lol!)

The Three Billy Goats Gruff used to be one of my favorite stories of all time when I was little. :D Wow, that brings back memories. I never new it was a Norse tale though. That's pretty cool to find out!

My wife ADORES this "fairy tale"! So much so it is even her character name in the LARP we participate in!

Excellent work!

That's awesome! Does she go by 'Tatterhood' or an old Norse/Icelandic/Norwegian translation of the name?
